Environmental issues you can Snap - No gumboots required

May 23, 2025

At Snap Send Solve, we know that looking after the environment starts close to home, sometimes right outside your front door. From dumped tyres to overgrown grass, there are plenty of problems out there putting pressure on our shared spaces. The good news? You don’t need to be a park ranger or scientist to make a difference. You just need your phone.

And nope, no gumboots required, we’ve made it easy to report local issues without getting your hands (or feet) dirty.

We’re putting the spotlight on environmental issues you can Snap.

So, what counts as an environmental issue?

Here are a few not-so-fun environmental problems that are all too common, and 100% Snap-worthy:

Tyre dumping

Old tyres don’t belong in bushland or laneways. Not only do they take forever to break down, but they can also leak nasty chemicals, attract mozzies when they fill with water, and are a huge fire hazard in hot weather.

Pollution in waterways

Spotted rubbish floating in a creek? Noticed an oil slick or mystery gunk in a lake?

Pollution in creeks, rivers, and lakes affects everything from the health of aquatic species to the quality of our drinking water. It’s also a sign that stormwater systems or nearby land use might need reviewing.

Dry or overgrown vegetation

Dry grass, leaf piles, and wild overgrowth might seem harmless until fire season rolls around. Particularly in bushfire-prone regions, this kind of unchecked vegetation can fuel fires, endanger homes, and threaten native habitats. It’s the kind of kindling we don’t want.

Illegal green waste dumping

When garden clippings, branches, or soil are dumped in bushland or waterways, it can smother native plants, introduce weeds, and disrupt fragile ecosystems. It’s not as eco-friendly in the way many assume, it can seriously damage the environment. Just because it’s “natural” doesn’t mean it’s okay.

Blocked stormwater drains

Stormwater systems are designed to funnel rainwater safely, but when they’re clogged with leaves, rubbish or sediment, they can flood roads and properties and send pollutants straight into our valuable waterways.

Keep an eye out, and your camera ready

These environmental issues might not always make headlines, but they add up. And when left unchecked, they can chip away at the health, safety and beauty of our shared spaces.

So next time you’re out and about, walking the dog, heading to the shops, or exploring a local park, keep an eye out for anything that’s out of place. If it’s dodgy, dirty, or potentially dangerous, Snap it.

You’ll be helping our shared spaces safe, clean, and great to be in.
