Lord Mayor Nick Reece and CEO Danny Gorog: The partnership behind Melbourne’s latest cleaning blitz

A recent feature on 9 News put the spotlight on the growing partnership between the City of Melbourne and Snap Send Solve, showing how your phone is becoming the frontline defence against graffiti and vandalism.

With the world’s eyes on Melbourne for events like the Australian Open and the upcoming Grand Prix, the city has set an incredibly high bar for city maintenance.

The City of Melbourne’s Lord Mayor, Nick Reece, revealed that the City of Melbourne is doing more than just cleaning up the streets, they’re sprinting. Between December and the start of the Australian Open, crews cleared over 90,000 square metres of graffiti. To keep that momentum going, the Council has introduced a bold new service standard.

"We have put in place a one-hour target time for the removal of hateful material," Lord Mayor Nick Reece told 9 News. "We are doing more than ever before to get the city clean."

This partnership is built on more than just quick clean-ups; it’s rooted in a strategy of prevention. During the segment, our CEO, Danny Gorog, explained why reporting an issue the moment you see it is so critical to stopping the cycle of vandalism.

"The faster you resolve graffiti over a number of times, the less likely it is to come back," Danny said.

By removing graffiti rapidly, the "reward" for the vandal, seeing their work on public display, is taken away. This makes the area less attractive for future tagging, effectively protecting the neighbourhood in the long run.
