Mattresses, tyres, even toilets. Illegal dumping is creating an eyesore across Melbourne, and 9 News has put the spotlight on how it’s affecting communities, and how councils and locals are working together to tackle it.
In a segment focused on Brimbank City Council’s response, 9 News highlighted new enforcement measures, including more officers on the ground and extra CCTV. But while fines are being handed out, the cost to the community remains high, over $1.5 million each year in Brimbank alone.
Snap Send Solve was featured in the segment, with data showing a 30% increase in illegal dumping reports in Melbourne’s northern suburbs, followed by a 25% rise in the south and further growth in the west.
From residents taking it into their own hands to councils stepping up enforcement, it’s clear that reporting tools like Snap Send Solve are playing a key role in keeping local areas clean.
